Frequent questions
The Practice mic does not pick up my voice.
- Make sure mic permission is granted: iOS Settings, then Laifu Japanese, then Microphone.
- Speech recognition runs on-device, so it works offline. If it is failing, fully close the app and reopen.
- Speak at normal volume close to the phone. Background music and TVs trip up the recognizer.
Audio does not play.
- Check the silent mode toggle on the side of your iPhone. Laifu respects silent mode.
- Try Bluetooth or wired headphones, then back to the speaker, to confirm the output route.
- Force-close and reopen the app. If the issue persists, email us with your iOS version.
How do I cancel my subscription?
- Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open iOS Settings, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, then Laifu Japanese, then Cancel Subscription.
- Already-paid time stays active until the current period ends.
- We never store or see your card details.
I want a refund.
- Refunds for App Store purchases go through Apple, not us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com from the Apple account that bought the subscription.
- If Apple denies the refund and you believe Laifu is at fault, email us. We will work with you.
I want to request a phrase.
For now, email support@nihongohongo.com. We track requests informally and add the most-asked ones in the next content update. A premium request feature is on the roadmap.
How do I delete my account?
Inside the app: Settings, then Account, then Delete Account. We cascade-delete your profile and your progress immediately. If the in-app flow is unavailable, email us from the address on your Apple ID and we will handle it manually.
Will Laifu come to Android?
Phase 2 plan. Right now we are focused on iOS. When Android lands, we will announce it here.
Where do you record the audio?
The voice you hear is generated by professional-quality speech synthesis tuned for natural Tokyo Japanese, then carefully reviewed before shipping. It runs once at build time. Your voice and your account are never sent to the synthesis service.
I found a typo in a phrase.
Email us with the phrase ID (long-press the phrase card in a future build, or quote the English) and we will fix it in the next content update. We treat content quality seriously.
