By using Laifu Japanese, you agree to the terms below. We have kept them short on purpose.
What Laifu is
A phrase-learning app for travelers and casual learners of Japanese. Laifu is provided as-is, with no guarantee that any phrase will get you exactly the response you want. Real conversation has variables. Use your judgement.
Your account
You sign in with Apple. You are responsible for any activity on your account. If you suspect someone else is using it, contact us.
Subscriptions
Laifu offers a free tier and a premium subscription.
- Free tier: hundreds of phrases free across every category, no card required. Premium unlocks the full library plus spaced-review flashcards.
- Premium Monthly: USD 4.99 per month.
- Premium Annual: USD 39.99 per year. New users get a 7-day free trial.
- Premium Lifetime: USD 99.99, a one-time purchase for permanent premium access.
Prices may differ slightly in your region based on Apple's local pricing tier. Apple displays the exact price before you confirm.
Auto-renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel any time from iOS Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions, then Laifu Japanese. Already-paid time stays active until the current period ends.
Free trial
If you start a free trial, Apple charges you when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Cancelling during the trial keeps premium access until the trial ends.
Payments
All payments are processed by Apple through StoreKit. We never see or store your card details.
Refunds
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com. If Apple denies a refund and you believe Laifu is at fault, contact us and we will work with you in good faith.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the app
- Scrape, copy, or redistribute the phrases, dialogues, or audio without written permission
- Use Laifu in a way that violates any law or any rights of another person
- Bypass the free tier limits or the subscription paywall
The phrases, dialogues, audio files, and brand assets are original work owned by Nihongo Hongo.
Content disclaimer
Laifu's phrases are educational. Tone tags (FORMAL, CASUAL) are guidance, not guarantees. Real social context shifts what is appropriate. We are not responsible for misunderstandings, missed trains, lost reservations, or romantic decisions made on the basis of the dialogues.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Laifu and Nihongo Hongo are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Our total liability is capped at the amount you have paid us in the past 12 months.
Termination
You can stop using Laifu at any time. We can suspend or terminate access for serious abuse of these terms (extremely unlikely, but covering ourselves). If we terminate, we delete your account data per the Privacy Policy.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Japan, except where local consumer law gives you stronger rights.
Changes
If we update these terms, we will bump the date at the top. Continued use of Laifu after the update means you accept the new version.
